The first round of pottery lessons at Odyssey Clayworks is complete. During four sessions, six participants made several items.
Lessons one involves hand crafting square and round bowls, as well as pressing slabs to be cut into shapes.
The focus of lesson two is creating rope bowls. Creating the ropes, fashioning them into bowls, and melding the rows for stability is an excellent activity to improve fine motor skills.
The third lesson is painting. All the items made during sessions one and two are decorated.
A highlight of the final lesson is working with a pottery wheel, including painting. The clay has a silky feel on the wheel. We add colors to make a lovely pattern as the wheel is spinning. Extra time at the end of class allows opportunity to make more slabs to cut and paint.
We look forward to the first round of pottery lessons turning into many more lessons.
